Toyota's Global Sales Recover to 84 percent of Previous Year's Level in June 2020RAV4 Sales Reach Approx. 426,000 Units in First Half, A Record High Among Toyota Models

Global Sales

Sales in June recovered to 84.0 percent of the previous year's level. Sales in China were up year-on-year for three consecutive months, and sales in Europe (down 11.5 percent), mainly in major countries, have been recovering since May. In Japan, sales have been trending toward recovery to 77.3 percent since June in conjunction with the cancellation of the state of emergency declaration (duration: April 7 to May 31).
In the April to June quarter, sales were down 31.0 percent, recovering at a pace that exceeded initial expectations in May.

Global Production

In June, global production recovered to 76.0 percent of the previous year's level (production was down 50.8 percent in April and down 54.4 percent in May). The main drivers were China (April: up 27.8 percent; May: up 13.5 percent; June: up 21.6 percent), North America (April: no production; May: down 78.5 percent; June: down 8.4 percent), and Europe (April: down 99.2 percent; May: down 59.9 percent; June: down 3.9 percent).

Others

Global sales of the Lexus brand vehicles in June amounted to approximately 64,000 units, reaching a record high in June. China, in particular, exerted a great pull, selling approximately 22,000 units that covered approximately 34 percent of the total sales.
RAV4 was the Toyota model that sold most in the first half. Its global sales amounted to approximately 426,000 units. Sales were good in shape especially in two countries: key markets in North America, and China, selling approximately 72,000, an increase by 15 percent over last year.
