'Etios' Series Cumulative Sales Top 100,000 in India
Toyota City, Japan, May 25, 2012―Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that cumulative sales of the "Etios" series surpassed 100,000 units in India on May 22. The Etios series is produced and sold by TMC's production and sales subsidiary in India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. (TKM).
The milestone was reached just one year and five months since the series launched in India with the release of the Etios sedan in December 2010. The sedan was followed by the "Etios Liva" hatchback in June 2011 and the Etios and Etios Liva diesel models in September 2011.
Concerning the achievement, TKM President Hiroshi Nakagawa said: "I am extremely pleased that the Etios series has come to please so many here in India. We will continue working with Indian consumers to produce ever-better cars suitable for their needs."
This year, Etios series sales from January to April were approximately 28,500 units, an increase of 160% from the same period of the previous year.
TMC, positioning emerging markets as a priority in its Toyota Global Vision, will increase TKM's vehicle production capacity from the current 210,000 units a year to 310,000 units a year in 2013.
Toyota will continue its efforts to manufacture cars that exceed customer expectations while also working to contribute to the building of better communities and societies.
