TMC Announces 2012 Community Concert Program
Toyota City, Japan, May 16, 2012―Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces details of its 2012* Toyota Community Concerts, a classical music concert program TMC holds annually throughout Japan in collaboration with its domestic sales companies as part of its social contribution activities. This year 44 concerts will be held in 22 prefectures throughout Japan.
The Toyota Community Concerts program showcases amateur orchestras and aims to contribute to the promotion of regional culture through music. As of the end of March 2012, 1,371 concerts have been held in 167 municipalities in 45 prefectures nationwide, with a cumulative audience figure exceeding 1,104,000.
In 2012, the program will feature three types of concerts―citizen's concerts, visiting concerts and invitation concerts―to match the needs of target communities.
Community concerts
These concerts will allow broad participation by group orchestras from the region. Participating orchestras will be able to perform in large urban concert halls with professional conductors and soloists.
Visiting concerts
Musicians will travel to places where residents have few opportunities to hear live music, and perform at such locations as gymnasiums, hospitals and various public facilities.
Invitation concerts
Concerts to which young people, the elderly, as well as people with physical disabilities, will be invited.
Amateur orchestras in the Tohoku Region, the area struck by last year's Great East Japan Earthquake, are gradually resuming activity, and performances will be held this year in Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures.
The visiting concerts that were first started five years ago have been praised as heartwarming performances wherever they have been held. This year eight performances will be conducted, including a concert in Kumano City, Mie Prefecture where a deadly typhoon struck in 2011.
TMC will continue its activities in local regions in its hope to bring pleasure to people across Japan through music.
