New Joint-venture Vehicle Plant in China Holds 'Corolla' Line-off Ceremony

 

Changchun, China, May 14, 2012―Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (SFTM), a vehicle manufacturing joint-venture company established by TMC and China FAW Group Corporation (FAW), held a line-off ceremony here today to mark the start of production of the "Corolla" sedan at SFTM's new West Plant in Changchun, China.

The ceremony was attended by approximately 700 people including FAW Chairman Xu Jianyi, SFTM President Akio Kato, TMC Senior Managing Officer Hirofumi Muta, and guests from the municipal and provincial governments.

At the ceremony, Muta said: "Toyota's business in Changchun has experienced much growth thanks to everyone here in China. With the start of West Plant production, we intend to continue producing even better cars in China."

Initial planned Corolla production at West Plant is approximately 100,000 units a year. Approximately 3.8 billion Chinese yuan was invested toward the start of production, along with creation of 2,000 new jobs.

Toyota will continue its efforts to manufacture cars that provide joy and exceed Chinese consumer expectations, while also working to contribute to the building of better communities and societies.
