Toyota Canada to Raise Lexus 'RX' Production Capacity
Production of Lexus 'RX 450h' Also to Begin
Toyota City, Japan, July 24, 2012―Toyota Motor Corporation's (TMC's) vehicle manufacturing subsidiary in Canada, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. (TMMC), will increase production capacity for the Lexus "RX 350" SUV as well as commence production of the Lexus "RX 450h" gasoline-electric hybrid SUV in early 2014, as part of TMC's continuing efforts to build a globally optimized production structure.
Annual production capacity for the RX 350, produced at TMMC's Cambridge Plant, will increase by approximately 15,000 units to approximately 89,000 units. RX 450h production is to begin with an initial annual capacity of approximately 15,000 units, thereby bringing total RX annual production capacity at Cambridge Plant to approximately 104,000 units.
Combined with the Toyota RAV4 production capacity increase at TMMC's Woodstock Plant of approximately 50,000 units planned for early 2013, the RX production capacity increase will raise TMMC's total production capacity from the current approximately 420,000 units to approximately 500,000 units by early 2014. Investment associated with the RX production capacity increase will be more than 100 million U.S. dollars, including investments toward related suppliers, and will create approximately 400 new jobs.
Due to production volume increases of other models, the above production capacity increases in Canada will not significantly affect production levels in Japan at Toyota Motor Kyushu, Inc. (TMK) in Kyushu, which currently produces the RX 450h and RX 350 for the North American market.
TMC will continue building a globally optimized production structure while promoting local production.
