Toyota Russia to Add Second Shift at St. Petersburg Plant

Number of Plant Employees to Expand to Approximately 1,750

 

Toyota City, Japan, April 20, 2012―Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that Toyota Motor Manufacturing Russia (TMMR), its vehicle production subsidiary in Russia, will start two-shift operations in September of this year. Approximately 600 new personnel have been hired in preparation, and TMMR forecasts that the number of plant employees will have reached approximately 1,750 when two-shift operations begin.

Concerning the announcement, TMMR President Yoshinori Matsunaga said: "Starting two-shift operations is a significant event for our plant. Our employee's commitment to Toyota principles in quality has resulted in us gaining Russian consumer trust and high evaluations for our Camry. It makes us at TMMR glad to be able to contribute to the economy of St. Petersburg and to its employment."

Moreover, to promote further localization in Russia, a market promising continued sustained growth, TMMR announced in February this year that it plans to add stamping and resin-molding processes to its production during 2014.

Based on its founding philosophy of contributing to society through the manufacture of automobiles, TMC plans to carry out business that contributes to the development of Russia's economy and its automotive industry. TMC will also steadily work to provide high quality vehicles that meet Russian market and consumer needs.
