Toyota to Further Increase Transmission Capacity in West Virginia, U.S.
Parts Manufacturer Bodine Also to Increase Capacity
Toyota City, Japan, March 2, 2012―Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that―due to growing demand―TMC's engine-and-transmission manufacturing subsidiary Toyota Motor Manufacturing, West Virginia, Inc. (TMMWV) in the United States is to further increase its six-speed automatic-transmission annual production capacity beyond a previously planned 400,000 units (announced in February 2011 and targeted for the end of 2012) to 520,000 units by the summer of 2013.
The revised capacity increase represents an additional investment of approximately 45 million U.S. dollars and 80 new jobs at TMMWV.
In line with the increase at TMMVW, Bodine Aluminum, Inc. (Bodine), a U.S. manufacturer of cast aluminum parts, will also boost annual production capacity of cases and housings for six-speed automatic transmissions by 120,000 units each. This will see an additional investment of approximately 10 million U.S. dollars and 25 new jobs at Bodine.
TMMWV currently builds six-speed automatic transmissions for "Avalon", "Camry", "Sienna", "Venza" and Lexus "RX 350" vehicles built in North America. TMC will continue to promote localized production based on its philosophy of building cars where they are sold.
