Applications Open for Toyota Choreography Award 2012
Toyota City, Japan, November 25, 2010―Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) will begin accepting applications from November 28 for the Toyota Choreography Award 2012. The award program, conducted in collaboration with the Setagaya Public Theatre, is part of TMC's social contribution activities in support of art and culture. The 2012 award is the eighth in the program, which was launched in 2001 to discover and nurture the next generation of choreographers.
Applicants must be citizens or residents of Japan or have activities that are based in Japan, and must have presented an original work of choreography to be eligible to apply. There are no restrictions regarding the genre of work. Applications close January 20, 2012 and must be postmarked that date or earlier.
The award selection committee will choose six Toyota Choreography Award finalists from among the applicants to perform their works at the "Nextage"1 final screening on July 22, 2012. The committee will then select one Next Age Choreographer Award winner and one Audience Prize winner.
The winner of the Next Age Choreographer Award will perform at the Setagaya Public Theatre's Theatre Tram space in 20132, with TMC providing 2 million yen to help cover production costs.
The selection committee consists of theater producers from around Japan and guest judges Kuniko Kato (percussionist), Yukiko Shikata (media art curator), Keishi Nagatsuka (playwright, director and actor) and Miwa Yanagi (artist and director).
