Toyota Announces 2014 Community Concert Program
Toyota City, Japan, April 18, 2014―Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces details of its 2014* Toyota Community Concerts, a classical music concert program Toyota holds annually throughout Japan in collaboration with its domestic sales companies as part of its social contribution activities.
The 2014 program will comprise 46 performances in 21 prefectures and will again feature three types of concerts―challenge concerts, visiting concerts and invitation concerts.
Challenge concerts
Reflecting the challenging needs of their communities, these concerts give amateur orchestras the opportunity to push their limits and perform challenging pieces. Participating orchestras will be able to perform in large urban concert halls with professional conductors and soloists.
Challenge concerts will be held on November 16 in Fukuoka Prefecture by the Fukuoka Civic Orchestra and on December 14 in Shizuoka Prefecture by the Numazu Symphony Orchestra, with orchestras attempting all acts of the opera Tosca by Puccini. Another concert will be held on November 24 in Tottori Prefecture by the Yonago Orchestra to commemorate the refurbishment of the Yonago Public Hall, with the orchestra attempting all acts of the ballet The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky.Visiting concerts
Musicians will travel to places where residents have few opportunities to hear live music, and perform at such locations as gymnasiums, hospitals and other public facilities.
Visiting concerts will also be held in support of reconstruction after the Great East Japan Earthquake, with orchestras visiting and performing concerts at Onagawa Elementary School in Miyagi Prefecture, Miyako Elementary School in Iwate Prefecture. Performances will also be held at special needs schools, aged care centers and other venues to bring joy nationwide through music and as part of continuing efforts to bring fun activities to communities around Japan.
Invitation concerts
Seats are set aside for young people, the elderly, as well as for people with physical disabilities.
With the support of Toyota Dealers, the Toyota Community Concerts program showcases amateur orchestras from across Japan and aims to contribute to the promotion of regional culture through music. As of the end of March 2014, 1,459 concerts have been held in 178 municipalities in 45 prefectures across Japan, reaching an audience of 1.18 million people.
