| Cadaques Orchestra The Cadaques Orchestra was founded in 1988 as the Cadaques Festival's resident orchestra, and made its debut in this unique town at the northern end of the Costa Brava with the participation of Alicia de Larrocha and others. Since then it has taken part in the principal Spanish music festivals with programmes that have aimed to combine well-known symphonic works with other more innovative pieces, in particular lesser known historical works and premieres of contemporary composers. It also participates regularly as resident orchestra of the Peralada International Music Festival. Sir Neville Marriner is its principal guest conductor, a position he has shared with Gennady Rozhdestvensky, and Xavier Montsalvatge was the orchestra's resident composer. The Cadaques Orchestra was conducted at the start mainly by Edmon Colomer and Philippe Entremont, and its principal conductor at present is Gianandrea Noseda, winner of the 1994 Cadaques International Competition for Orchestra Conductors. The orchestra has collaborated with many famous conductors and soloists, and has made several recordings with Lucia and Edmon Colomer, and with Sir Neville Marriner and Gianandrea Noseda. Philippe Entremont, Conductor French pianist and conductor Philippe Entremont was born in Reims, France, in 1934, the son of the musician parents. He entered the Paris Conservatory at age 12, winning first prizes in chamber music in 1948 and in piano the following year. He made his professional debut in 1950 at age 16, in Barcelona, Spain. After touring in Europe for the next two years, Entremont won first prize in the prestigious Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Piano Competition in 1953. His parallel conducting career began in the 1970s, when he was named Music Director of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. He was named Principal Conductor of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra in 1993 and is also presently Laureate Conductor of the Israel Chamber Orchestra. He has guest conducted many of the world's finest orchestras. His recorded legacy ― as pianist, conductor, and often both roles at the same time ― is vast. Jose Maria Gallardo del Rey, Guitar At ten years of age, Jose Maria Gallardo de Rey made his debut in Seville, Spain. Since then his stage career has progressed with great acclaim from critics and audiences alike. He is one of the few soloists to have cultivated guitar music to reach beyond the classical repertoire and push back the limits previously placed on the guitar and solo guitar technique. He is as skilled and experienced with opera and ballet as he is with Flamenco and Jazz and has performed with some of the finest orchestras, chamber groups, ensembles and soloists in the world. In addition, he regularly performs throughout Europe with the world famous Spanish mezzo-soprano Teresa Berganza. Invited to Paris along with Menuhin, Rampal, Ozawa and Elton John, Gallardo del Rey performed in the 70th birthday celebrations of Mustislav Rostropovich in March 1997. He also appeared with John Williams at the Darwin International Guitar Festival, Australia in 1995 and again in 1997. Through his astounding technique and sensitive interpretations, Gallardo del Rey has been commissioned to perform world premieres of works. |
