Toyota to Build V6 Engines at Alabama Plant
New Line to More Than Double Capacity at TMMAL,
Add About 150 Jobs
Tokyo ― TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today that engine manufacturer Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Alabama, Inc (TMMAL) will add V6 engines to its product lineup from mid-2005, increasing its annual production capacity to 250,000 units.
TMMAL, which was established in June 2001 to build 4.7-liter V8 engines for the Tundra full-size pickup truck, began production in April 2003 with an annual capacity of 120,000 units. It currently employs about 350 people.
The planned V6 line will mean jobs for approximately 150 more people and represent an additional US$20 million investment. The V6 engines are to be used in the U.S.-made Tundra and the U.S. and Mexico-made Tacoma pickup truck.
TMMAL's V6 production will increase Toyota's overall North American annual engine production capacity to 1.29 million units.
