Toyota Unveils New RAV4 at Frankfurt Motor Show

Tokyo ― TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) today unveiled the new RAV4 for the European market and put on display a number of other vehicles at the 61st Frankfurt International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany, which runs from September 12 to 25 (including the September 12-14 press days).

The first RAV4, with its stylish design and its high level of drivability―even in a city setting, went on sale in 1994, and gave rise to the new genre of small SUV. The second generation, which went on sale in 2000, grew to become a global model.

The third-generation RAV4 has inherited the attractive identity of its predecessors, while further evolving as a premium small SUV with enhanced performance, functionality and quality.

The exterior has a dynamic and unique style based on the theme of "Modern & Rugged", while the interior remains spacious and versatile thanks to highly efficient organizational design.

The renowned drivability of the RAV4 has been innovatively enhanced, with a selection of two kinds of newly developed, 2.2-liter diesel engines and a newly developed suspension system (new MacPherson strut design in the front and a new double wishbone design in the rear). The RAV4 also comes equipped, as standard, with a new system integrating S-VSC*1 control, which optimally balances driving power, steering and braking, with active torque control four-wheel drive that distributes optimum torque to the rear wheels depending on driving status (such as vehicle speed and road surface conditions).

Furthermore, the engines comply with EURO Ⅳ emission standards, and in particular, the engine equipped with the D-CAT*2 clean diesel system has achieved the cleanest emission level of any engine in its class.

In addition to the new RAV4, the Toyota exhibit at the Frankfurt Motor Show features, among others, the new Yaris, as well as the ENDO and i-unit concept vehicles. Also, at a Lexus exhibit at the same show, the GS450h hybrid sedan due to be launched next spring is on display, along with the new IS and the LF-A concept vehicle.
