Toyota Argentina Unveils New Hilux Pickup

― IMV Project Expands to Include Argentina ―

Tokyo―Toyota Argentina S.A. (TASA) unveiled a new Hilux pickup truck in Buenos Aires, Argentina, today.

The new Hilux pickup truck is one of five newly developed vehicles within the IMV (Innovative International Multipurpose Vehicle) Project currently being promoted by Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC). Production of IMV Project models began in Thailand and Indonesia last year and in the Philippines and India in February of this year, making Argentina the fifth IMV production base.

TASA celebrated the production of the first unit of the new Hilux at a Line-Off Ceremony that took place on Feb. 28 at Zarate Plant, Buenos Aires with the attendance of around 300 guests, including Argentine President Néstor Carlos Kirchner, . Sales of the new model are set to soon start.

TMC has positioned TASA as its supply base for pickup trucks and SUVs for the Latin American market, and, in addition to the new Hilux, TASA plans to produce an IMV series SUV from the second half of this year. TASA’s total production capacity for these two IMV models is 65,000 units per year about 70% of which is expected to be exported to about 20 countries in Latin America, including Brazil.
