Toyota to Hold 70th Anniversary Commemorative
Concerts with Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra
Tokyo ― TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today that it will hold a series of concerts in April 2007 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of its founding, featuring the Toyota Master Players, Wien, a specially selected orchestra of 30 musicians from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
A total of seven concerts will be held throughout Japan―five "Wien Premium Concerts" (Sapporo, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka)―featuring performances by the Toyota Master Players, Wien playing selections from the Viennese classics, represented by masterpieces from the composers Haydn and Mozart, as well as Beethoven's 6th symphony, also known as the Pastoral Symphony, and two Wien Grand Concerts (Tokyo and Nagoya) featuring, in addition to Mozart's lively opera arias, joint performances by Conductor Yutaka Sado of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra and the Fujiwara Opera Chorus Group, playing Beethoven's 9th symphony.
Soloists (instrumental soloists and vocalists) will include musicians from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and singers from the major opera houses of Europe, such as the Vienna State Opera, as well as Japanese harpist Naoko Yoshino, soprano Akiko Nakajima and tenor Shigehiro Sano.
This is the sixth series of the Toyota Master Players, Wien concerts since the series' start in 2000 as part of TMC's social contribution activities in support of the arts and culture. These concerts are provided at a reduced ticket price to offer a large number of people an opportunity to appreciate world class musical art.
This series will also feature several free special programs targeting younger audiences, namely invitations to all performances and public rehearsals (Tokyo and Nagoya), a "Masters Class" (taught by an instructor from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) (Tokyo), and concerts at elementary schools and child welfare facilities (Tokyo and Nagoya).
Applications for each of these special programs can be found on the TMC (Japanese-language) website (http://www.toyota.co.jp/tomas07/).
Tickets for each of the performances will go on sale from Saturday, December 16 and will be available through ticket agencies across the country. For inquiries in Japanese or English regarding tickets, please contact the Toyota Master Players Secretariat at 03-5210-1555.
