Tsinghua University-Toyota Research Center Opens in Beijing
Tokyo ― TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) and Tsinghua University* held a ceremony today to mark the opening of the Tsinghua University-Toyota Research Center at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Tsinghua University Vice President Kang Kejun and Deputy Director Wang Zanji, TMC Executive Vice President Masatami Takimoto and Senior Managing Director Tetsuo Hattori, among others, welcomed the ceremony's guests.
Tsinghua University and TMC, which have held joint technology courses since 1998 to enhance their respective technological skills and began joint research in 2003, agreed to a contract in November 2005 on the establishment of the Tsinghua University-Toyota Research Center after realizing that even closer collaboration was needed to help achieve sustainable global economic and social development and the formation of a prosperous and environmentally considerate society.
The members of the center's Executive Committee, the center's highest decision-making body, are Tsinghua University's Kang, Wang, Department Head Zhang Fengtong and Department Head Ma Jun, TMC's Takimoto, Hattori and Managing Officer Tatehito Ueda and Toyota Motor Technical Center (China) Co., Ltd. President Akira Sasaki.
Research at the center will be conducted in the three fields of earlier joint research―environmental science, energy and materials science―and will be expanded to include automobile safety technologies. A Tsinghua University-hosted website will also be created to invite research proposals and announce research results.
*Established in 1928. As one of China's leading general universities, it has a faculty of approximately 3,000 professors and associate professors and a student body of approximately 28,000.
