Toyota's Asia-Pacific Global Production Center
Begins Training for Asian Manufacturing Affiliates

Tokyo ― TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced that Toyota Motor Asia Pacific Co., Ltd. (TMAP Thailand) held a ceremony today at the Asia Pacific-Global Production Center (AP-GPC) in Thailand to mark the start of the AP-GPC's role as a regional training center.

At the ceremony, TMAP Thailand President Ryoichi Sasaki declared that the AP-GPC is to play an important part in "enhancing knowledge and skills based on the Toyota Production System to support and maintain high quality throughout Asia". Meanwhile, TMC Managing Officer Koichi Ina awarded GPC-issued instructor certificates to AP-GPC trainers.

The AP-GPC is the Asian branch of Toyota's Japan-based Global Production Center (GPC), which was established in Japan in July 2003 to further disseminate knowledge and best practices to all Toyota team members.  After opening in August 2005 and being used to train Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd. (TMT) employees during its first year, the AP-GPC―operated by TMAP Thailand, a company that supports Toyota production in Asia―will from now serve to train team members from Toyota's Asian manufacturing affiliates.

The AP-GPC is joined by the North American Production Support Center (NAPSC), a GPC branch in the United States, and the European Global Production Centre (E-GPC), a GPC branch in the United Kingdom, meaning that, including the GPC in Japan, Toyota currently has four production training centers worldwide.

Located on the premises of TMT's Samrong Plant, the AP-GPC will conduct seminars in eight key processes: stamping, welding, painting, plastics molding, logistics, assembly, quality control and maintenance.
