With the Japanese debut of the FJ Cruiser, a "My FJ" vehicle customization system allows the creation of a truly fun vehicle through customer selection of personalized styling and driving performance upgrades.

Individualistic Styling
The front view expresses strength by integrating a straight-line cabin with a robust body.
- Close-to-upright windshield and round halogen lamps combined with "TOYOTA" name emblem create simple yet powerful modern form with styling cues from Toyota's off-road past.
- Large side mirrors and silver trim on bumper centers and ends convey ruggedness
- Three windshield wipers provide wide coverage
The side view features a distinctive white roof, while rear-hinged side-access doors open wide to facilitate easy rear-seat ingress and egress. The sporty design is reminiscent of a two-door coupe.
The rear view conveys quality with quarter windows extending to the rear and a high-mount LED brake light on the rear spoiler.
The interior adopts analog instrument meters with white surface areas and bold numerals to express rigidity and an eight-speaker audio system that uses the ceiling panel as a speaker diaphragm to distribute sound throughout the cabin, creating expansive sound. Meanwhile, the Color Package features door trim color-keyed to exterior panels, a silver-tinted shift knob and 2WD/4WD transfer knob, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, all providing a more stylish package.
An Authentic SUV with Superior Driving Performance
The platform—the basis of all performance—is full-frame, thus raising torsional and bending rigidity throughout the vehicle and ensuring strength and durability. The platform also contributes to outstanding collision safety and quiet on-road driving for a comfortable interior.
The suspension—double-wishbone at front and trailing-link rigid-axle in back—gives the FJ Cruiser outstanding maneuverability and cruising stability, and an extremely comfortable ride both on-road and off-road. The vehicle's shock absorbers are tuned for comfortable ride, while the Off-Road Package features trail-tuned Bilstein® monotube shock absorbers for off-road performance. Optional X-REAS (Relative Absorber System) places an intermediate unit linking front-left and rear-right, front-right and rear-left absorbers, thus adding supplementary dampening force optimized to match absorber operation to control roll and pitch and provide superior maneuverability and cruising stability, even during off-road driving.
The powerful 4.0-Liter V6 1GR-FE gasoline engine provides both driving and environmental performance.
- Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) optimally controls timing of intake and outtake valve opening and closing according to driving conditions to provide both ample drive performance and fuel efficiency
- Emission levels are 50% lower than 2005 standards under Approval System for Low-emission Vehicles by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) in Japan
- Fuel efficiency is 8.4 km/L under 10-15 test cycle outlined by MLIT, equivalent to 276 g/km of CO2 emissions
A part-time four-wheel-drive system enables the driver to select 2WD or 4WD according to driving conditions by simply switching the transfer knob.
The Off-Road Package comes with locking rear differential as standard, a feature that distributes drive force equally to the wheels, facilitating extraction from ditches, mud or sand and providing powerful driving performance on rocky surfaces.
An optional active traction system that applies the brakes to wheels that slip or spin during demanding off-road driving or in icy conditions, with drive force distributed to the other wheels until grip is restored.
SUV Fittings Designed to Enhance Fun
Roomy luggage space and features to accommodate outdoor activities create relaxed and easy-to-use interior space.
- Water-repellant-fabric seats with seams treated with water-repellant sealant enable comfortable use even in bathing suit or wetsuit
- Rubber-like floor and deck carpeting is easy to clean even after soiling from off-road ingress and egress and loading and unloading outdoor gear
- Door handles, shift lever knob, and transfer knob are large, and air conditioning control panel is equipped with large dials and switches to provide easy grip, even when wearing thick gloves
- Rear-door glass hatch opens independently of rear door allowing flexibility of use
"My FJ" Allows Personal Customization
"My FJ", a new vehicle customization system, will allow customers to combine various accessories and parts to create their own original FJ Cruiser, which they can do by going online (http://toyota.jp/), where they can also simulate estimates and view photos of the standard and customized FJ Cruisers. Customers can then take the results to a dealer to consult with specially trained FJ staff. Customers will also be able to freely incorporate genuine Toyota and Toyota Modellista parts and accessories.
