TOYOTA BUILDS ADVANCED EXHAUST GAS CONTROL LABORATORY
IN NAGOYA
TOKYO―Toyota Motor Sales Company has completed construction of the "Nagoya Exhaust Gas Control Laboratory" at their Haruhi Plant in Aichi Prefecture.
The Ultra-modern facility, which is designed to make comprehensive tests and analyses of auto exhaust gas emissions, is reportedly the first such full-scale laboratory to be put to practical use in Japan.
Creation of the advanced laboratory reflects Toyota's efforts to further improve its after-service in line with increasing restrictions on vehicle exhaust gas emissions, as well as the company's concern with ecological problems.
The new research unit is fully equipped to test and analyze the exhaust gas emission performance of Toyota vehicles that have been in operation for many years.
The comprehensive data obtained will be fed back to Toyota's many R & D programs and will also be used in the company's auto emission-related educational programs targeted at dealers.
A key feature of the new laboratory is that it is equipped with instruments that will measure both density and weight of exhaust gases in line with a global tendency to measure exhaust gases in terms of weight.
With sophisticated and highly sensitive instruments, the laboratory is better able to carry out the domestic "10-mode" and "6-mode" methods, the "LA 4-mode" method used in the United States, as well as the conventional "4-mode" and "7-mode" methods. Much of the measurement data will be processed with the aid of computer systems.
In addition, the research facility is equipped with various new instruments, including a high temperature/humidity device (which can adjust temperature from room levels to 50°C and humidity from room levels to 90%). This will enable the laboratory to conduct a large variety of basic studies of auto exhaust gas problems.
