CUMULATIVE EXPORTS OF TOYOTA HI-LUX
PASS MILLION MARK
TOKYO―Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd., announced today that cumulative exports of the Toyota Hi-Lux, a one-ton bonnet-type truck, broke the 1-million-unit mark in November 1978.
Although the first Hi-Lux was exported in April 1968―which means it took 10 years and 8 months to break the million mark―about 800,000 of the units were exported during the 1973-78 period alone, reflecting briskly increased demand in the United States and other overseas markets.
In the United States the Hi-Lux successfully developed a new market as a pickup-type small leisure vehicle, and in the developing countries it was welcomed and is highly valued now as a truck possessing outstanding passenger car characteristics, combining high reliability, economy and utility.
At the end of November 1978, the official estimated number of exports of the Hi-Lux was 1,009,772 units.
