TOYOTA TO SUPPLY LOTUS OF U.K. WITH ENGINES
Toyota Motor Company, Ltd. announced on June 9 that it has agreed to supply Group Lotus Cars Companies Ltd. of Great Britain with engines and other major parts, a step which may lead to future cooperation in both the production and technology areas.
Late last year Toyota shipped samples of three engines to Lotus―the 18R-G (2.0-liter DOHC), 21R (2.0-liter OHC) and 2T-G (1.6-liter DOHC). Lotus then initiated studies to determine if these engines could be mounted on its own cars.
The result has been an agreement under which Toyota will supply Lotus with engines and other parts and components. The two companies are also considering the possibility of long-term cooperation in other areas, chiefly production and technology.
