TOYOTA ANNOUNCES CHANGES IN 4WD BLIZZARD
New Sunroof-Equipped FRP Top Model Marketed
TOKYO―Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. and Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd. today announced changes in the Blizzard 4WD utility vehicle, releasing the new models for nationwide sale.
Handled exclusively by the "Toyota Vista" dealer chain, the Blizzard was first marketed in April 1980, and has since earned a solid reputation as a powerful, compact, four-wheel-drive utility vehicle.
The changes in the series are geared to respond to expanded and more diverse demand for 4WD vehicles in Japan. A model featuring a sunroof-equipped FRP (resin) top and other new models have been added to the Blizzard lineup, and various improvements have also been made in comfort and function.
Major changes in the Blizzard series are:
- Expanded Vehicle Line
- New sunroof-equipped FRP top modelTo respond to increased demand for recreational vehicles, a new model has been added featuring a deluxe sunroof-equipped top constructed of FRP (fiber-reinforced plastic = resin) and other stylish new features. The FRP model features a lightweight, and highly rust-resistant soft-type top and a smartly designed white colored resin body.
- Expansion of Deluxe Grade Selections
While in the past, soft top Blizzards were available only in standard grades, a soft top Deluxe model has been added with improved interior and equipment features. Deluxe grade Blizzards designed to carry two persons (load capacity 250 kg) have also been added to the van and FRP top versions. - As a result of these additions, the entire Blizzard line has been expanded from four to seven models.

- Enhanced Safety Features
- Top quality front-wheel disc brakes have been made standard equipment on all models.
- Rear window defoggers are standard equipment on FRP top models.
- Seatbelts on all models have been changed to ELR-type belts, eliminating any sense of constriction while in use.
- Halogen-type headlights have been adopted to provide improved visibility at night. (Optional on all models)
- Improved Comfort
- Substantial improvements in front seat comfort have been realized through adoption of a reclining mechanism, increasing the slide adjustment distance, and expanding the width of the seat itself.
- The interior has been made more luxurious on FRP models, with additional trim on the backdoor and rear side areas and carpeting on the floor.

- The models described in this release are available only in Japan.
- Equipment Additions
- A super glow system which guarantees quick three-second starts even at temperatures as low as 0 degrees Centigrade has been adopted on all models.
- Wide tread tires (H78-15 type) offering top safety levels and stylish white sports wheels have been added as standard equipment on FRP top models.
- A newly designed soft-type top easy to take on or off or store has been added as standard equipment on Deluxe grade soft top models.
- As an addition to the previous electric winch feature, a new mechanical type winch has been added as an option.
