A rundown of major features and specifications follows

1. Innovative styling combines soft curves with clean-cut lines

• Curves and lines combined in innovative styling give this new small-size model a wider tread and lower overall height for sporty "wide and low" proportions.
• The large, integral air-cut flap and bumper in the front, wide protection moulding on the sides, and vertical-stack wraparound lamp housings at the rear corners afford a unique, active look for this all-new Corona.
• Both front and rear ends are substantially tapered for a flush surface design which minimizes aerodynamic resistance, to achieve an outstanding 0.35 coefficient of drag.

2. Roomy interior and superior space utility

• Despite lower total height and minimized outside dimensions for stylish design, the interior compartment measurements―1,840mm long, 1,405mm wide and 1,150mm high―lift this new model into the next larger class of passenger cars. Luggage space is in the upper ranks of all comparable models.
• Full-reclining front seats and a new rear-seat reclining mechanism provide "all-flat seating," realizing an advanced interior utility standard lacking in conventional small-size cars.
• The "parcel board" converts into an extra seat in the luggage compartment with the rear door open and the car stopped.

3. 1S-FF engine combines top-class driving with stingy fuel consumption

• The new FF Corona is powered by the reliable, lightweight and compact 1S-FF engine (four-cylinder, 1832cc) linked to a perfectly matched transaxle. Combined with the low (Cd=0.35) body aerodynamics, the motive power of the new Corona brings light drivability together with low fuel consumption.
• The 10-mode fuel consumption of only 13.6km/litre (Ministry of Transport test result for manual transmission type) puts this model among the leaders of its class.
• The 1S-FF engine has high performance values of 100HP maximum output (at 5400rpm) and 15.5kg-m maximum torque (at 3,400rpm) for exceptional accelerating performance and quick, sharp response.
• The quiet engine and effective use of sound and vibration insulating materials contribute to reducing noise level in the cabin.

4. Excellent maneuverability, driving stability and ride comfort

• The wide tread, the strut-type four-wheel independent suspension system, speed- responsive power steering and other outstanding features contribute to superb maneuverability, driving stability and riding comfort.
• The new front suspension system highlights optimum design features which include the use of negative camber angle and a suspension link mechanism used to minimize shifts in car position during acceleration or braking, for high driving stability.
• Standard equipment on the new model includes ventilated front disc brakes for high braking performance.

5. New mechanisms and equipment

• The FF 5-door Corona lineup comes with the following standard or optional new mechanisms and equipment for different grades, for improved interior comfort and utility:

1. The "sound-in-sound" audio system allows the front or rear passenger to enjoy favorite music, for example, from a cassette tape via headphones, while others listen to the radio at the same time.
2. The cooler unit, large enough to hold five juice cans, is located at the center of the front compartment, independent of the cabin air-conditioning system. This unit can also be used for ordinary storage.
3. The flow distribution control system for the air-conditioning system allows free choice of air distribution for the driver and front seat passenger.
4. Tilt steering and height-adjustable front seat assure optimum driving posture.
5. The slide unit in the console can hold canned drinks for rear seat passengers.
6. The automatic switch (Hi/Lo) motor fan used to cool the radiator and the air-conditioning condenser minimizes fuel consumption and further reduces noise level (Two-step control cooling motor fan).
