TOYOTA ANNOUNCES NEW COASTER BUS LINEUP

1. Comfortable, Quiet Interior
   For improved passenger comfort, the new Coaster has been made bigger all around. It now measures 6,180 mm in length and 1,995 mm in width, which translates to an interior that is 60 mm wider and 130 mm higher. This means more room all around; leg room, for example, has been stretched thanks to extra space (between 41 and 61 mm) between the seats. And right from the design stage Toyota focused on reducing noise; the result is an exceptionally quiet cruiser―quiet enough to make passengers forget they're in a bus.
2. New Engines
   Complementing the top-rated, time-proven 22R gasoline engine (2366 cc, 115 ps) are two outstanding new diesel powerplants: the tough, reliable and smooth-running six-cylinder 2H engine (3980 cc, 115 ps) and the supremely economical 3B (3431 cc, 98 ps). To date, the 22R and 2H have both been approved under Japan's demanding 1982 emissions control standards.
3. Expanded Series
   The model change includes the debut of a long-body version of the Coaster, stretched for maximum interior space to a length of 6,860 mm and a wheelbase of 3,800 mm.
   Several variations on the long-body theme are available: a 29 person version, a special luxury EX Saloon version seating 20, an EX model that seats 26, and a special children's size bus for kindergarten-age youngsters, complete with air-conditioning.

   The line-leading EX Saloon features a cabin that's truly fit for a king. Its expansive floor is cloaked in plush, 9 mm cut-pile carpeting, while its 20 seats (without fold-down jumpseats) are perfectly positioned for maximum comfort. Weather-sealed side windows 1,360 mm wide afford panoramic visibility.
   The EX Saloon also boasts independent reclining moquette seats―single-stage reclining in the front, triple-stage reclining in the rear―plus split head and footrests and many other elaborate refinements designed to allow the passengers to bask in the luxury-quiet ride of the EX's superior soundproofing.
4. New Functions and Equipment
   1. Independent front suspension―a first for this class of vehicle―gives improved handling and a more comfortable ride.
   2. An overhead air-conditioning system introduces outside air through front and rear rooftop ventilation ducts, greatly enhancing cabin temperature control and helping maintain a refreshing riding atmosphere in even the hottest conditions.
   3. Sliding doors, another first in this class, mean smoother, quieter opening and tighter closing, with a more weatherproof seal. These are standard equipment in the EX Saloon, in the EX, and in the cooler-equipped DX; the EX Saloon and EX come with automatic versions.
   4. Power steering gives easier, more controllable handling (Standard in models with the 2H engine).
   5. Special seats in the rear may be folded down to expand luggage space (Standard in the EX Saloon and EX).
   6. Ventilated disc brakes in front, yet another first in this class, offer powerful stopping and superb fade resistance (Standard in EX Saloon and EX).
