TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION LAUNCHED

Merger of TMC and TMS for Further Growth

 

TOKYO―Toyota Motor Company (TMC) and Toyota Motor Sales Company (TMS) officially merged today, becoming TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION.

The major objective of the merger was Toyota's desire to more closely integrate its manufacturing and sales sectors in order to cope with coming changes in the increasingly competitive global automobile industry.

With the creation of TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION, Toyota will be reorganizing its entire operation, with the following areas given particular priority.

  1. Effective utilization of personnel, materials, capital and all other available resources to improve overall efficiency.
  2. A swifter decision-making mechanism.
  3. Enhancing the organizational mobility of the entire corporation.

To aid in implementing these goals, the following organizational changes have been implemented, effective today.

  • The following TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION offices will be responsible for the following areas: Head Office (Toyota City), administration, technology and production; Tokyo, overseas operations and external relations; and Nagoya, domestic-related business activities.
  • The entire company will consist of eight separate divisions
    1. the head office staff and line personnel;
    2. purchasing and external procurement;
    3. domestic sales;
    4. overseas activities;
    5. technical, and production technology;
    6. distribution control;
    7. production; and
    8. office affairs and miscellaneous.

This has been done in the interest of integrating the previous functions of TMC and TMS, as well as to provide an organizational response to the management needs being faced by the new company.

As a result, the 153 departments and offices (107 from TMC and 46 from TMS), which existed before the merger, have been consolidated into 148. In addition, the following new departments were created.

  1. Affiliated Companies Finance Staff II, in charge of strengthening support for surveys into dealer operations.
  2. Customer Relations Department, to provide swift and accurate responses to customer demands and needs.
  3. Finance Department, for enhanced management of capital and credit.
  4. Tokyo Research Department, to strengthen information gathering and external affairs management.
  5. Nagoya General Administration Department, to better coordinate the overall operation of the Nagoya Office.
  6. Domestic Transportation Department, Overseas Transportation Department and Parts Transportation Department, to improve the efficiency of Toyota distribution and transportation.
  7. Rental and Leasing Department, to promote expansion of Toyota's rental and leasing business.
