  1. Boldly Individualistic Styling
    • The Sprinter Carib's styling brings a uniquely fresh approach to individuality and rational design. Noteworthy is a stylish high roof covering a more roomy interior, a strikingly original front and back door, and a unique quarter window boasting an unprecedented expanse of glass, for higher visibility.
  2. Roomy Comfort Complements Outstanding Utility
    • Adopting a stylish high roof on a station wagon-type body has guaranteed ample frontseat, backseat and luggage space. And enabling the front seat to fold completely flat means even more interior space is available.
    • The cabin is a picture of deluxe comfort and roominess. An instrument panel with a wide, easy feeling, seats with an impressive selection of adjustments, a topflight ventilation system, impressively equipped audio system and a bright, appealing seat color scheme make the Carib truly a pleasure to ride in.
  3. A 4WD with Superb Mobility
    • The Sprinter Carib is equipped with a superbly designed mechanism which gives the driver the option of either FWD or 4WD with a simple shift of a lever located behind the gear shift. The FWD setting is ideal for highway and city driving, while for rough, steep or snowy roads shifting into 4WD adds a new dimension of enjoyment and efficiency to driving pleasure.
    • The transmission features, in addition to the five forward speeds available in the FWD mode, an extra low gear in the 4WD mode, for times when extra power is called for.
  4. Outstanding Handling, Stability, Rideability
    • Suspension is strut-type in front and lateral rod-equipped four-link type in the rear. Steering is rack-and-pinion and both models are outfitted with radial tires―assuring topflight handling, stability and rideability. The car's highly rigid body, newly designed clutch discs, and other key advances mean quiet yet powerful performance.
    • On the AV-II grades, speed responsive power steering is included as standard equipment.
    • All models have their bodies set further above the ground, significantly improving rideability over rough surfaces.
  5. Powerful, Fuel-Stingy Engines
    • Toyota's renowned 3A-II is a 4-cylinder OHC 1452 cc engine, sporting a maximum power rating of 83 ps at 5,600 rpm and maximum torque of 12.0 kg-m at 3,600 rpm. Fuel efficiency ratings are 14.0 km/L (10-mode Ministry of Transport test values for AV-I) and 24.5 km/C over a set course at 60 km/h (MOT notification values).
  6. New Mechanisms Enhance Multifunctional Utility
    • The Sprinter Carib is a breathtaking, new multipurpose utility vehicle whose many-sided excellence is enhanced by a rich variety of new equipment, available either as standard or optional features by grade.
      1. A clino meter, which checks the front-rear and right-left angle of the car as well as the drive (FWD or 4WD) mode.
      2. Rugged, wide all-season tires, which guarantee stable running in all types of weather, even heavy rain or snow.
      3. A front and rear opening package tray, making it easy to load or unload luggage.
      4. Big, sturdy urethane bumpers, fully integrated with sophisticated air cut flaps.
      5. Eight-way front sport seat, with adjustment controls guaranteeing the optimum driving position for drivers of all builds.
      6. Electric sunroof, with large open area and easy operation at the flip of a switch.
      7. Computer controlled automatic air conditioning, to maintain the desired cabin temperature at all times.
      8. Two-stage air conditioning with a special energy-saving economy setting in addition to the normal range.

The Meaning of "Carib"

The name Carib comes from the English "Caribou" (American reindeer), and is intended to inspire images of this strong animal, so graceful as it gallops over mountains and snow-covered plains.
