¥10 BILLION GIVEN BY TOYOTA
TO START JAPAN'S LARGEST FOUNDATION

Act Marks Group's Celebration of 40-Years in Automotive Industry

TOKYO To celebrate 40 years in the automotive industry, Toyota Motor Company and Toyota Motor Sales Company have revealed plans to donate ¥10-billion ($37.7 million) to the public as a "thank-you" gift.

The vast sum will be used to fund public interest projects in the fields of scientific research and social welfare. Use of the funds will be determined by the projected "Toyota Foundation" (tentative title), with advice received from government agencies and independent experts.

Government approval of the Foundation is expected to be received next Spring and initial funding will start with ¥3-billion. This will then rise incrementally to the full ¥ 10-billion. The Foundation, upon approval, will be Japan's largest.

Toyota has a long history of sponsoring social welfare projects. The new Foundation is a logical extension of this policy and aims at enabling the Group to expand its public interest activities world-wide on a long-term basis. It is fitting that the Foundation operate on a global basis in order to reflect Toyota's growing internationalization.

Toyota's management describe the establishment of the huge fund as a giant step forward with respect to the Group's goal of serving the public first and "creating an affluent society through automobiles."
