FULL-MODEL CHANGE OF MARK II VAN AND WAGON MODELS

 

TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION today announced full model changes in the Toyota Mark II Van and Wagon models.

The new Van (commercial use-oriented station wagon) and Wagon (station wagon) models were developed based on the new Mark II 4-door sedan, itself introduced on August 22 with a completely new model change. The Van and Wagon are mounted with newly developed engines and utilize newly designed chassis components for improving their drive characteristics, handling and fuel performance. The designers also paid close attention to internal and external equipment, to enlarging the interior space, and to making the new Van and Wagon models more functional and more luxurious.

A total of six versions of the two models have been introduced, four in the Van series and two in the Wagon series.

Tentative sales targets are 1,000 Vans and 300 Wagons per month.

The following are the principal features and specifications of the new Mark II Vans and Wagon models.

Principal Features
  1. Completely New Styling
    Aerodynamics in the two new models have been improved through use of highly flush- surface windows, which has resulted in styling with a refined, composed appearance.
  2. Mounted with New Engines
    The engines newly mounted on the two models include the 2Y engine (2Y-J type, 4-cylinder, OHV, 1,812cc) for the gasoline-powered Van and the 2L Diesel engine (2L type, 4-cylinder, OHC, 2,446cc) for the diesel-powered Van; and the 1G-II engine (1G-EU type, 6-cylinder, OHC, 1,988cc) for the Wagon model. All these engines provide values at the top level in their class for maximum power output, maximum torque and fuel efficiency.
Mounted with New Engines
  1. Newly Designed Suspension
    A MacPherson strut type suspension is used in the front, and a coil type 4-link suspension is used in the rear. Highly tuned suspension has improved handling and running stability, as well as riding comfort. The use of variable rack and pinion type steering, meanwhile, lightens the steering effort at low speeds and improves straight-line stability at high speeds.
  2. Improved Quietness
    In order to realize a high degree of interior quietness, even during high speeds, a sandwich-type anti-vibration panel is used for reducing vibrations, and sound-proofing materials are used wherever possible to prevent noise from entering the driver's compartment.
    Use of closely flush body styling to make the body area smooth has greatly reduced wind noise.
  3. Replete with Equipment and Accessories
    The following standard and optional equipment and accessories are available in the new Mark II Van and Wagon.
    • Dual linked rear wipers provide effective rear window cleaning and assure clear vision out the back window.
    • The resin protection molding and bumpers serve to unify the external appearance.
    • The trim in the luggage compartment is utilized to provide pockets for holding small articles.
    • A footrest lets the driver rest his left foot so that it does not tire, even on long drives.
    • An electromagnetic door lock allows one-touch door locking and unlocking (except for cold climate specification vehicles).
    • Flush carpeting is used for deck and back door trim.
