CUMULATIVE PRODUCTION OF TOYOTA LITEACE REACHES ONE MILLION

Toyota City―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION today announced that cumulative production of its LiteAce (cab-over type vans, wagons and trucks) reached the one-million mark at the end of May. The milestone was reached 15 years and 8 months after production of the first LiteAce.

The LiteAce was introduced in October 1970 as a new kind of cab-over type truck with―unlike its conventional counterparts―both the comfort and drivability of a small car. Following the start of sales in November of the same year, it immediately attracted favorable attention from customers.

In January 1971, the van and wagon versions were added to the lineup, and production has steadily increased; leading the development and growth of the cab-over vehicle market. In May 1980, the LiteAce reached a cumulative production mark of half a million units.

Exports started in 1971, and approximately 20% of the one million units produced are now used by overseas customers.

The latest achievement of the LiteAce is the sixth of its kind. Five other makes of Toyota commercial vehicles, including the HiLux and the HiAce, have previously reached this one-million milestone.
