CUMULATIVE PRODUCTION OF TOYOTA HILUX REACHES FOUR MILLION

Toyota City―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION today announced that cumulative production of the HiLux, its small 1-ton bonnet truck, reached the four-million mark at the end of May. The milestone was marked 18 years and three months after production of the first HiLux.

The HiLux has become the first Toyota truck to achieve cumulative production of four million units. When passenger cars are included, the HiLux is third, after the Corolla and Corona, to reach that record figure.

Since it was first announced, the HiLux has earned high ratings both domestically and abroad for its excellent mobility and superior driving comfort comparable to passenger cars.

Of the four million units, exports accounted for about 90 percent. 1985 results saw total production at 490,560 units, of which 466,258, or 95 percent, were for export. 307,430 units, or 66 percent of total exports, were destined for the United States.
