CHINA COMPLETES NEW DRIVING SCHOOL IN COLLABORATION WITH TOYOTA

Toyota City―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION has joined in the setting up of China's first full-scale driving school. Named the Capital Taxi-Toyota Drivers' Training Center, this landmark facility was officially opened on June 15.

The Center is the first of its kind in China and is the result of efforts on the part of the Capital Taxi Company of Beijing. Toyota has collaborated in the provision of a wide range of support for the Center, and in cooperation with the Chubu Nippon Drivers' School has prepared textbooks and school curricula and will provide training vehicles, driving simulators and training instructors.

The idea for the Training Center, which will meet China's need for driver training and traffic safety education as the number of cars increases, was sparked in March 1985. Toyota Motor Corp. Chairman Eiji Toyoda was visiting China at the time, and offered Toyota's cooperation on the project. In addition,
Toyota has made solid contributions to automobile maintenance in China, establishing training centers in Beijing and Guangzhou and regional service centers throughout the country.

In Japan, Toyota was responsible for opening the nation's first driving school, the Chubu Nippon Drivers' School, in 1957, and has prepared an education system and textbooks that have since become the standards in the field. Apart from their wholly owned subsidiary, Chubu Nippon, Toyota has also cooperated in the founding of several other driving schools.

For the China project, Toyota has used its rich fund of know-how in the field of drivers' training. We hope that the Center will produce first-rate drivers, disseminate traffic safety education and improve the flow of traffic throughout China.
