IS FOCUS OF WORLD ATTENTION
Toyota Exhibit is Feature of Oct. 30―Nov. 12 Harumi Event
TOKYO―The 20th Tokyo Motor Show, which is sponsored by the Japan Motor Industrial Federation under the patronage of H.I.H. Prince Takamatsu, will be held from October 30th through November 12th at the Harumi Fairground pier in Tokyo.
World attention is focused on the giant event, in which 216 manufacturers of vehicles and automotive equipment (including 20 foreign automobile firms) will participate.
The sponsoring Federation, which is headed by Toyota Motor Company President Eiji Toyoda, is putting considerable effort into making the 20th anniversary show the best ever staged. Special exhibits will feature a large variety of classic, electric and custom-made cars. A large photographic panel display will highlight the show's 20-year history as well as the historical evolution of wheeled vehicles.
A major aspect of the show this year will be the many faceted Toyota exhibit, which is concentrated in Passenger Car Pavilion #1 and Commercial Vehicle Pavilion #2. The exhibit is divided into 7 "corners," which collectively reflect corporate efforts to create "harmony between the automobile and our society."
Special exhibit corners for this year comprise: the "Enterprise Corner," the "RV Corner (I)," the "Sports Comer," (which are in Passenger Car Pavilion #1), the "Commercial-Use Vehicle Comer," the "Public-Service Vehicle Corner," the "TOYOTA Easy Carry System Corner," and the "RV Corner (II)" (which are in Commercial Vehicle Pavilion #2).
Special exhibits at various "corners" are designed to reveal part of Toyota's R & D achievements in such areas as vehicle and traffic safety, pollution control, and urban traffic control systems, a well as projections on the future of motorization.
There are 59 vehicles on display at the 7-exhibit corners outlined below.
Displayed in Pavilion #1 are 16 vehicles selected from the full line of ten models TOYOTA CENTURY through TOYOTA PUBLICA.
The "Enterprise Corner"―This exhibit demonstrates Toyota's corporate approach to the problems of safety and vehicle-generated air pollution, as well as the pioneering technology developed to help solve these problems. Major displays are:
- The TOYOTA ESV (Experimental Safety Vehicle)
- A prototype TOYOTA CORONA low-emission vehicle (equipped with a variety of emission control de 'ices)
- An advanced "sedan for the future" (FI01)
- A cut-away body section of a new TOYOTA CORONA
- The TOYOTA MAC System, and
- Other newly-developed electronic devices.
The "RV Corner"―Toyota's "leisure-time vehicles" are displayed here. It is anticipated that the public demand for these will expand as the new "leisure- oriented age" matures.
The "Sports Corner"―Several world-renowned Toyota racing and rally cars are shown here. The TOYOTA CELICA which achieved such outstanding performance records at this year's major European championships is also shown. Adjacent to this "corner" are conference tables, information desks and (in line with the company's consumer-oriented marketing policies) a center for distribution of brochures and other promotional materials.
The Toyota exhibit in Pavilion #2 consists of the following individual "corners":
The "Commercial-Use Vehicle Corner"―Shown here are 13 representative models of station wagons, vans, trucks and micro-buses, which illustrate the great variety of commercial needs for which Toyota has designed appropriate vehicles.
The "Public Service Vehicle Corner"―Featured here are 4 representative models of Toyota's public service vehicles, viz, a "first-aid" type of ambulance (TOYOTA HI-ACE), a "telephone car" (TOYOTA HI-ACE), etc.
The "TOYOTA Easy Carry System Corner"―There are 4 models of the TECS (Toyota Easy Carry System) series here, including a "refrigerator car" (HI- EUX), a "power-gate" vehicle (TOYOACE), etc. TECS series vehicles were developed to lower physical distribution costs in industry, as well as to streamline trucking operations.
The "RV Corner"―Seven models from the Toyota RV series (including TOYOTA CROWN, Stationwagon; TOYOTA LAND CRUISER, Special; and TOYOTA-HI-ACE, Motor Home) are exhibited here. Vehicles in the RV series are designed to cater to a variety of leisure-time activity requirements.
