TOYOTA COMPLETES 1ST CIRCUIT AT SHIBETSU PROVING GROUND

Toyota City―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION announced today that it has completed the construction of the 1st circuit of its Shibetsu Proving Ground in Hokkaido. The 10 km addition, including a 4 km straightaway, almost completes the facilities of the largest proving ground in Japan, which Toyota started building in June 1982.

In recent years, with increasingly diverse demands, customers have made the improvement of technological development systems, including testing and research facilities, an important goal. Shibetsu Proving Ground is Toyota's third proving ground, following one at its company headquarters in Toyota City and another at its Higashi-Fuji Technical Center in Shizuoka Prefecture. Since the completion of the first phase of construction in October 1984, Shibetsu Proving Ground has been used for a variety of tests, primarily for cold climates. The new 1st circuit will be used for high-speed testing, and the already completed 4th circuit will be used for testing on cornering.
