Results for December 1995
  • Monthly production in December fell compared with the same month last year mainly due to a decrease in exports.
  • The overall domestic market in December rose by 4.9% versus December 1994 to 514,434 units. Registrations of Toyota vehicles exceeded the overall upward trend, rising by 5.9% from a year ago to 143,000 units because of favorable sales of new models and sales growth stimulated by the "Big Challenge Toyota" campaign. Toyota held a 27.9% share of the total market at the end of December.
  • Because of decreased exports to North America, Latin America, and other regions, overall exports in December were down from a year ago. Overseas production, however, exceeded that of December 1994 thanks to steadily expanding production at New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI) and Toyota Motor Manufacturing, U.S.A., Inc. (TMM).
Results for the Whole of 1995
  • Yearly production in 1995 fell from a year ago due to a decrease in exports.
  • The overall domestic market in 1995 rose by 5.2% versus 1994 to 6,864,909 units, marking the second consecutive year that registrations have exceeded those of the previous year. Registrations of Toyota vehicles followed the overall upward trend, rising by 1.0% from a year ago to 2,060,000 units because of favorable sales of new models and sales growth stimulated by the "Big Challenge Toyota" campaign conducted during the second half of the year. The domestic market in 1995 (excluding minivehicles)rose by 4.8% versus 1994 to 5,149,289 units, marking the second consecutive year that registrations have exceeded those of the previous year. Toyota held a 3 0.0% share of the total market (40% excluding minivehicles) at the end of the year.
  • Because of decreased exports to North America, Europe, and other regions, overall exports in 1995 were down from a year ago. Overseas production, however, exceeded that of 1994 thanks to full-scale operation of Toyota Motor Manufacturing, U.S.A., Inc.'s second plant.
