Toyota Five-Door RAV4 Unveiled at 65th Geneva Motor Show

Tokyo―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION announced that its five-door version of the Toyota RAV4 model was unveiled today at the 65th Geneva Motor Show.

The five-door RAV4 joins the popular three-door RAV4 model, whose production version was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show last year.

The new RAV4 model has the same stylish exterior and interior design as the three-door version, but boasts more interior space with seating for five, making it suitable for family use. By increasing the wheelbase and rear overhang, the five-door model is 410mm longer than the three-door version, resulting in a luggage capacity of 409 liters (VDA standard) with the rear seats upright, and 645 liters VDA with the rear seats folded forward.

The five-door version also retains many design and mechanical features of the three-door model. These include the rigid monocoque body, four-wheel independent suspension, full-time 4WD, and the powerful 2.0-liter 3S-FE engine. The new model is also offered with either a five-speed manual gearbox or four-speed automatic transmission.

Safety features include an optional supplemental restraint system (SRS) air bag on the driver's side and an antilock. brake system (ABS). Mechanical-type front seatbelt pretensioners, three-point type seatbelts for two rear passengers, and side-door beams are fitted as standard.

To minimize the impact on the environment, front and rear bumpers as well as side protection moldings are made of Toyota Super Olefin Polymer, a recyclable resin.

The five-door RAV4 will be produced together with the three-door version at Toyota's Motomachi Plant in Toyota City, Japan. The RAV4 production line is a further evolution of similar production lines recently installed at Toyota's Kyushu Plant.
