-
- Exterior DesignThe front view features a powerful profile, a three-dimensional hood relief, and a front grille with the Carib logo. The side has a sporty look with high-roof silhouette, compact body, wide side-protection molding, and distinctive quarter windows. - Performance
EngineTwo new twin-cam engines―the 1.8-liter 7A-FE and 1.6-liter 4A-FE―power the new Sprinter Carib. The high-performance high-efficiency 7A-FE engine developed exclusively for the new model realizes excellent performance and driving pleasure.
The lighter body and new ECT-s automatic transmission give the car top fuel economy in the 1.8-liter 4WD station wagon class.ChassisThe four-wheel independent suspension is fitted with McPherson struts on the front and rear. Dual-link McPherson struts introduced for the rear suspension provides greater drivability, stability, and riding comfort. A pipe frame for the rear subframe reduces weight and increases rigidity.
The wide tire turning angle makes possible a minimum turning radius of 4.8m―the best of its kind in the 1.6- and 1.8-liter engine station wagon class―assuring outstanding mobility even though the wheelbase has been stretched. - Interior and options
InteriorWith the cabin now 80mm longer and 75mm wider, a lighter interior color above the belt line, and distinctive and colorful seat upholstery, the new Sprinter Carib gains a cheerier, more open look.Full consideration has been given to the space utility of the rear seats by increasing cabin height by 25mm, leg room by 20mm, and seat length by 25mm.A wide range of seating arrangements is possible with the new 6:4 collapsible rear seat. Luggage space enlarged to a maximum of 684-liters (VDA measurements)―30% more than the previous model―has been implemented for increased diversity and functionality.Options

- Safety and Environmental Considerations
Active SafetyDramatically improved chassis performance realizes outstanding drivability and emergency-avoidance performance.Passive SafetyIn addition to an improved front and rear impact-absorbing structure, stronger material for cross members and other lateral frame components, together with energy-absorbing doors, provide passenger safety levels capable of meeting the new U.S. side-impact crash safety standards.A driver-side supplemental restraint system (SRS) air bag is standard equipment on all grades.Environmental ConsiderationsTo help conserve energy and resources, optimal parts design has reduced weight by up to 40kg. The lighter weight, the new engines, and the new ECT-s automatic transmission ensure top fuel economy in the 1.8-liter 4WD station wagon class. The highly recyclable thermal plastic resin, Toyota Super Olefin Polymer, is used for the front and rear bumpers and interior components such as the instrument panel. The rear bumper has a split structure, the top half of which is left unpainted because it is the part most often damaged in collisions. Hence, repair costs are lowered and natural resources saved in the event of damage replacement.
