Toyota Displays "Yaris" at Paris Auto Salon

Tokyo―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) is displaying the new model "Yaris," scheduled to be launched in the European region from the spring of 1999, at the Paris Auto Salon being held in France. The vehicle will be on display from Tuesday, September 29 through Sunday, October 11. September 29 and 30 will be press days, and October 1 to 11 will be open to the general public.

The Yaris is a new two-box vehicle with a spacious interior providing comfortable seating for four adult passengers, contained in a compact body with a luxurious silhouette.

The vehicle employs a newly developed 1.0-liter gasoline engine using Variable Valve Timing-intelligent (VVT-i), and offers a comfortable ride and low fuel consumption. In addition, high safety levels have been demonstrated through 40% lap offset frontal crash testing at 64km/h, and full consideration given to the environment―as exemplified by low fuel consumption, low emissions and ease of recycling.

TMC plans to produce the Yaris at the new plant to be established in Valenciennes, France in early 2001.
