Toyota, Hino, Daihatsu
to Highlight HVs, Logistics Systems,
Welfare Vehicles at 34th Tokyo Motor Show
Tokyo―Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), Hino Motors, Ltd. (Hino) and Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. (Daihatsu) will feature new hybrid adaptations and leading-edge CO2 reduction technology as they display more than 60 concept, production and welfare-oriented vehicles at the coming 34th Tokyo Motor Show for commercial vehicles, the three companies announced today.
Under the show's theme of "Logistics for the 21st Century", the three companies plan a lineup of vehicles―ranging from light trucks to large trucks and buses―that demonstrates how TMC, Hino and Daihatsu are anticipating the logistic demands of the future, including the chief goal of ensuring that urban life and industrial activities coexist in harmony with the global environment.
To meet this goal, road, rail, sea and air transport methods need to work together, relying on the strong points of each to provide a systematic flow of people, commodities and information. The door-to-door flexibility of road transport makes it the core element of a modal mix of several interconnected transport methods, and its importance is expected to increase. Road transport therefore needs to evolve further. Along with the need for higher basic performance, there is a need for greater concern for the environment and safety, more-advanced logistics, and the creation of more-pleasant methods of transporting people with special physical requirements.
As such, TMC, Hino and Daihatsu's efforts not only cover developing vehicles for various logistical situations―such as individual or corporate use, small- or large-lot distribution, and short or long distances; they also embrace work on developing operating systems for such vehicles. The 22 concepts, 29 production models and 13 specially equipped vehicles to be displayed at the show will be integrated with exhibits on the environment, safety-focused ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) and transporting the elderly and the disabled.
- Specifically, the exhibits will include
-
- New diesel technology for further reductions in CO2 and cleaner emissions
- Hybrid vehicles and alternative-fuel vehicles that run on fuels such as CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas)
- High-efficiency, next-generation transport management systems for logistics using ITS technology
- Trucks with ASV (Advanced Safety Vehicle) technology
- Buses and nursing care vehicles enabling easy wheelchair access and movement
The show will take place from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4 at Nippon Convention Center (Makuhari Messe) in Chiba Prefecture. TMC, Hino and Daihatsu will hold a press briefing at their booth at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 31.
