Toyota Celebrates Production of Its 90 Millionth Vehicle
Tokyo―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) held a line-off ceremony today at its Tahara Plant to mark the production of its 90 millionth domestically produced vehicle. TMC is the first Japanese automaker to reach this manufacturing milestone.
Some 200 guests were present as a silver metallic Aristo 3.0V, the official 90 millionth vehicle, was introduced by TMC executives. The accomplishment will also be commemorated by the construction of a wind-powered generator at the Tahara Plant.
It has taken 61 years and one month since the completion, in August 1935, of the first G1 truck by the Automobile Department of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, Ltd., TMC's predecessor, to reach the 90 million mark. Of these, over 70% were passenger vehicles. Toyota celebrated its 80 millionth unit's line-off in September 1993.
