First Car Lined Off at Toyota Argentina's Zarate Plant

Tokyo―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today that the first locally produced Hilux came off the assembly line at the Zarate Plant of Toyota Argentina S.A. on December 9 at 11:00 a.m. local time (23:00 the same day Japan time). Toyota Argentina produces and sells Toyota products in the Argentine Republic.

Scheduled to begin mass production in March 1997, the Zarate Plant will produce 10,000 units a year for the time being, while plans call for annual production to be raised to 20,000 units once full-scale operation is underway. Beginning in the spring of 1997, Toyota Argentina will be exporting about half of its production to Brazil.

TMC and Toyota Argentina plan to continue contributing to the Argentine economy by procuring parts and materials locally and creating employment opportunities for the Argentine people.
