Toyota Markets New FF Vista and CamryLASRE Engine Plus Front-Wheel-Drive: Roomier Than Ever Small Cars With Superb Power and Fuel Efficiency

TOKYO―Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. and Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd. today announced two new small-size FF (front engine/front-wheel drive) passenger cars, the Vista and Camry, and released both for sale throughout Japan.

The two new models are outstanding embodiments of functional beauty, topflight fuel economy and superior driving performance, and offer a luxuriously comfortable, roomier than ever interior too. They are packed with the latest Toyota technological advances and constitute truly magnificent responses to the complex demands of today's motoring. Their principal features include the following:

1. A New Peak in Functional Beauty
   Fresh luxurious appearance, solidly based on aerodynamic excellence―a low slanted nose, large wraparound bumpers smoothly integrated with the body, and wide tread that enhances a trapezoidal silhouette combining ground-hugging stability with pleasure for the eye.
2. Outstanding Fuel Economy and Driving Performance
   The new Vista and Camry are equipped with the LASRE-IS-FF four-cylinder 1832 cc transverse engine, recently developed but already famous for light weight and compact size. Perfectly mated with a new transaxle and aerodynamic styling, this remarkable powerplant offers a winning combination of superior power and fabulous fuel economy: the Vista 1800 VC and Camry 1800 LT scored 14.0 km/L in Ministry of Transport 10-mode tests, the top figures for a 1.8-liter class passenger car.
   The LASRE-IS-FF provides maximum power of 100 ps at 5,400 rpm and maximum torque of 15.5 kg-m at 3,400 rpm, for superb pickup at lower speeds and sharp, satisfying response at medium and higher speeds.
   The engine and transaxle are connected to the super-rigid body through a four-point support mount system, which combined with a low-noise electric fan means a whisper quiet ride.
3. Wide, Roomy Interior
   Toyota has taken full advantage of FF design, to create an interior with generous increases in roominess both front and rear. With a low-positioned instrument panel and flat floor, the cabin is more spacious and brighter than ever. The world's first multi-comfort

   The view Vista and Camry feature a fine balance between wide tread, strut-type four-wheel independent suspension and rack-and-pinion steering. 5. New Mechanisms and Equipment
   Both new models feature an impressive array of the latest automotive mechanisms, available as standard or optional equipment depending on grade.
   1. Heater or air conditioner adjustment for separate tuning of air temperature for both the driver and front seat passenger.
   2. Wide flow ventilation system which sends a stream of warm or cool air to the front or rear seats at the flip of a switch, for a major advance in passenger comfort.

The new Vista and Camry are both available in four different versions of a four-door sedan with five-speed manual transmission.
