Cumulative Toyota Production in Pakistan Reaches 500,000 Units
Toyota City, Japan, November 5, 2012―Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that Indus Motor Company Limited (IMC), TMC's joint-venture production and sales company in Pakistan established with the House of Habib (HOH), held a ceremony at its plant in Karachi today to mark cumulative production of 500,000 vehicles.
Attendees of the ceremony included Pakistan Minister of Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaiks, TMC Executive Vice President Yukitoshi Funo and IMC Chairman Ali S. Habib. In his speech to mark the occasion, Funo said: "I would like to thank all of our associates and customers in Pakistan, as well as all of the Pakistani people for their support enabling us to achieve cumulative production of 500,000 units in Pakistan. I hope Toyota will continue to contribute to the development of Pakistan's society, economy and automobile industry by aiming to deliver ever-better cars that enrich Pakistani consumers and society."
IMC was established in 1989 as Toyota's production and sales base in Pakistan. Production of the "Corolla" sedan started in 1993, followed by production of the "Hilux" pickup truck in 1996. Now, 19 years later since the start of Corolla production, the milestone of 500,000 units produced in Pakistan has been reached.
TMC, based on its founding philosophy of contributing to society through the manufacture of automobiles, is dedicated to producing ever-better cars for the benefit of consumers and society.
