Toyota to Hold the 28th Toyota Automobile Museum Classic Car Festival

Tokyo, Japan, April 24, 2017―The Toyota Automobile Museum will hold its 28^th Classic Car Festival, a local event aimed at promoting car culture, on Sunday, May 28 at the Aichi Expo Memorial Park in Nagakute City, Aichi Prefecture. In addition to a diverse selection of exhibitions and other events for visitors to enjoy, a parade of privately owned Japanese, U.S., and European classic cars dating from 1987 or earlier will be held on public roads in the vicinity.

The start of the 2017 parade will feature the "2000GT" Bond Car―where the model is also celebrating its 50^th anniversary this year. Approximately 150 privately owned vehicles will be driven in chronological order alongside next-generation vehicles such as the Toyota "i-Road" to in order to generate the atmosphere of a festival where visitors are able to experience and witness the evolution of automobiles through the years.

Coinciding with the parade, the Aichi Expo Memorial Park will also hold an exhibition entitled "Dreams and Desires: 1960s Sports Cars," which focuses on the birth of genuine Japanese-made sports cars that followed the rapid progress in motorization after the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in Japan.

Five classic cars from Japan, the U.S., and Europe taken from the museum's collection will go on display and be driven around the Classic Car Circuit (CCC)

the 2000GT Bond Car that was created for the James Bond film You Only Live Twice;
the "Mazda Cosmo Sport¹" which, like the 2000GT, features a rotary engine that was first developed 50 years ago;
the "Nissan Silvia" that boasts character lines cut with jewel-like precision;
the best-selling "Ford Mustang;"
and the "Jaguar E-Type Roadster," which had a significant influence on later sports cars.

This year, Toyota will also collaborate with the Nagoya Chamber of Commerce & Industry to conduct test rides of the next-generation i-Road, "COMS" and "Winglet" mobility vehicles as part of the Mono+Sugo Project².

¹The Mazda Cosmo Sport will not be driven around the CCC and will be exhibited only.

Visitors wishing to test ride the i-Road, COMS, and Winglet can apply at the test ride reception from 9am. Applications will be closed when all test ride spaces have been filled.

(Start time: 8:30-11:00, ends by 15:30)
Participants will travel from the Aichi Loop Railway's Setoguchi Station to the Aichi Expo Memorial Park. The first 2,000 participants to collect all checkpoint stamps will receive a commemorative pin badge.
Museum shop
Items for sale, including miniature cars and the popular Toyota Automobile Museum Curry.
The first 500 people who show the pamphlet distributed at the event along with the museum admission ticket (actual day only) to the Museum Reception Counter in the Main Building will receive a gift.

Getting to the Venue

As traffic is expected to be congested around the venue, measures will be implemented to encourage use of the Linimo train line (such as promotions and free shuttle buses).

Advantage of using Linimo
Linimo passengers who show proof of boarding documents at either the Information Kiosk at Aichi Expo Memorial Park Oshibafu Hiroba or the Reception Counter in the Main Building of the Toyota Automobile Museum will receive a free day pass to the Toyota Automobile Museum. Proof of boarding documents are distributed inside the Linimo Aichi Expo Memorial Park Station ticket gate between 8:30 and 15:00.
Free shuttle buses will be traveling among three bus stops within Nagakute City every 15 minutes between 8:45 and 17:00.

Commemorative photos	Ford Model T Depot Hack (1914, U.S.A.)	9:30-16:00	A body designed to transport both people and belongings was installed by special custom car operators on this Ford Model T chassis. It is the predecessor to the present-day station wagon.
	Austin-Healey Sprite (1958, U.K.)		One of the most compact lightweight British sports cars produced, this hugely popular vehicle was affectionately known as the "Frog-eye" in the U.K., "Bug-eye" in the U.S., and "Crab-eye" in Japan.
	Ford Mustang Convertible (1964, U.S.A.) on display at MegaWeb		With a styling previously unknown in the U.S. and an innovative marketing strategy, the Mustang proved explosively popular particularly among younger drivers, and instigated the subsequent pony car boom.
	Special participation Toyota Mirai (2014, Japan)		A Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV). The i-Road and COMS will both be displayed in the same booth.
Test rides	Jeepney (1991, Philippines)		This vehicle is widely used as a bus by the general public in the Philippines. It came about by converting jeeps disposed of by the US army. The attention-grabbing ornamentation is also a feature.
	Toyota Mega Cruiser "JAF Disaster Counter-measure Command Vehicle" (1997, Japan)	12:30-13:00 13:30-14:00 14:30-15:00	The Mega Cruiser has the ability to go places where standard 4WD cars are unable to. With a minimum ground clearance of some 420 mm, the vehicle boasts outstanding mobility.
	LTI TX1 (London taxi) (2001, U.K.)		Introduced in 1997, this is the successor to the familiar Austin FX which has been used as a London taxi for almost 40 years since 1958. It continues the tradition of the London taxi which is able to fit through narrow spots, and also features a minimum turning radius of 3.8 meters.
Mono+Sugo Project Next-generation mobility vehicle test rides		9:30-15:30	Test rides of the i-Road, COMS, and Winglet. Visitors can apply for test rides at the test ride location from 9am at the reception. Conditions apply to test ride - an Ordinary Driver's License is required to test ride the i-Road or COMS.

CCC special exhibition cars - "Dreams and Desires 1960s Sports Cars"

Jaguar E-Type Roadster (1965, U.K.)	After debuting at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, the E-Type Roadster gained immense popularity and decisively raised the value of the Jaguar brand. With its long nose and short rear deck, the Roadster had a significant influence on many subsequent sport cars.
Toyota 2000GT "Bond car" (1966, Japan)	This year marks the 50th anniversary of the launch of the 2000GT. This particular vehicle was one of two created for the film You Only Live Twice, which was released in 1967. Through the film, the 2000GT altered the perception of Japanese cars which until then had largely been seen only as vehicles for practical use. It showed the world that Japan was developing into an industrial nation.
Nissan Silvia CSP311 (1966, Japan)	The Nissan Silvia, which combined the Datsun Fairlady chassis with a newly developed 1,600 cc engine, was launched in 1965. With its joint-free body panels and highly refined character lines cut with jewel-like precision, the car was nicknamed the "Crisp Cut."
Ford Mustang Hardtop (1967, U.S.A.)	The Mustang Hardtop was released in 1964, and was targeted at the post-war baby boomers. It boasted sporty styling and performance despite its compact size and reasonable price. With its low base price and wide range of options, the Hardtop turned out to be Ford's biggest success since the Model T.
Toyota 2000GT MF12L (1969, Japan) on display at MegaWeb	While its exterior is often mistaken for the export specs of the final 2000GT model, this is in fact the overseas model equipped with the easy to service 2.3-liter SOHC engine. Unfortunately, the model was never mass produced, and just nine prototypes were manufactured.
Mazda Cosmo Sport (1969, Japan) Exhibition only	Launched at the 1963 Tokyo Motor Show as a vehicle equipped with an actual mass-produced rotary engine, the Cosmo Sport was launched in 1967. Utilizing the benefits of its compact, high-output rotary engine, the vehicle's low, flowing styling and futuristic proportions created a powerful impression.
