Toyota to Up Transmission Capacity in West Virginia, U.S.
Parts Manufacturer Bodine Also to Increase Capacity
Toyota City, Japan, February 26, 2011―Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that―due to growing demand―TMC's engine-and-transmission manufacturing subsidiary Toyota Motor Manufacturing, West Virginia, Inc. (TMMWV) in West Virginia, United States is to increase its six-speed automatic-transmission production capacity. In line with this, Bodine Aluminum, Inc. (Bodine), which supplies automatic transmission cases and housing parts to TMMWV, is to boost production capacity at its plant in Jackson, Tennessee and at its plant in Troy, Missouri, which is to supply housing parts for the first time.
TMMWV is to increase its annual production capacity of transmissions from the current level of 270,000 units to nearly 400,000 units by the end of 2012. Bodine is to raise its annual production capacity of cases and housing parts from 320,000 to 640,000 units during the same timeframe.
The production-capacity increases represent an additional investment of approximately $64 million and approximately 40 new jobs in TMMWV, and approximately $8.4 million and 20 new jobs in Bodine.
To mark the announcement, Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller, U.S. Representative Shelley Moore Capito and representatives from TMC and its affiliates attended a ceremony held at TMMWV on February 25.
