Tennessee to Become Home of Toyota Engine Block Plant
―New Unit to Supply Toyota Engine Production Facilities in North America―
Tokyo―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today that it has selected Jackson, Tennessee, USA, as the home of a new aluminum die-casting plant that will make aluminum engine blocks for engines assembled at Toyota's North American engine plants. The Tennessee facility will be the third plant of Bodine Aluminum, Inc., Toyota's Missouri-based aluminum block die-casting unit.
The new plant―Toyota's first wholly owned plant in the state of Tennessee―is scheduled to kick off operations in 2005 and build up to a yearly production capacity of about 1 million units. The aluminum engine blocks produced will be supplied to Toyota's North American engine plants for machining and assembly.
This decision represents Toyota's long-standing policy of making products where they are sold. The plant, which will be set up and expanded over several years, will eventually have an investment of US$124 million and will employ approximately 200 people.
