Toyota to Raise Production Capacity of 2nd Canadian Plant

Tokyo ― TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today that Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, Inc. (TMMC), TMC's vehicle and engine production company in Canada, will increase the annual production capacity of its under-construction plant in Woodstock, Ontario to 150,000 units.

Although the plant was scheduled to begin operation in 2008 with an annual production capacity of 100,000 units for the RAV4 compact sport utility vehicle (SUV), the announced expansion is aimed at allowing a flexible response to future market demand in North America. The total investment now planned for the plant in Woodstock is approximately 1.1 billion Canadian dollars (approx. 950 million U.S. dollars), with total employment coming to approximately 2,000. The expansion will give Toyota an annual production capacity in North America of 1.88 million units in 2008.

TMMC began operations in November 1988. In 2003, it started production of the RX330 as the first Lexus model ever produced outside of Japan. Currently, TMMC produces the Corolla, Matrix and RX330 at its plant in Cambridge, Ontario.
