Toyota to Exhibit at 14th World Congress on ITS

Tokyo ― TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today that it plans to exhibit its latest ITS (Intelligent Transport System) technologies at the 14th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems to be held from October 9 to 13 in Beijing, China. Under the theme "Drive ITS Dreams", TMC will present, in an easy-to-understand way, its ITS activities in the areas of "Safety", "Environment" and "Comfort".

TMC will display a special version of the Lexus LS600hL equipped with cutting-edge, ITS technologies. A video presentation will be used to introduce TMC's initiatives with regard to the development of autonomous vehicular systems that use various onboard sensors and information communications technology, such as the Pre-crash Safety System, which features a driver-monitoring camera, millimeter-wave radar and a stereo camera fusion system. TMC will also present the development status of promising vehicle-infrastructure cooperative systems that support safe driving practices by using wireless communication technology to gather information about traffic events beyond the view of the driver (via devices employed throughout the road infrastructure, such as along roads, in other vehicles, carried by pedestrians, etc.).

In addition, the telematics service scheduled for implementation in China will be introduced through a video and a hands-on demonstration involving actual devices. Also, at China's outdoor Proving Ground for Highway and Traffic of the Ministry of Communications, TMC will participate in conducting a technical tour, jointly carried out by Japan and China, offering test-rides to demonstrate a safety driving assistance system.

TMC has long and actively promoted ITS and has participated in the ITS World Congress since its inception, where it has displayed its latest ITS technology.

The World Congress on ITS is the world's largest and most influential ITS-related international conference; it is held every year in rotation in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and the Americas. ITS-related groups (government and research bodies and commercial enterprises) from a wide range of countries and regions use the sessions (centered on research papers), exhibitions and technical tours to present and display their latest ITS research findings and products.

functions
   - Pre-crash Safety System, with driver-monitoring camera, millimeter-wave radar and stereo camera fusion system
   - Rear-end Pre-crash Safety System
   - Radar Cruise Control with All-speed Tracking Function
Driving simulator to experience advanced safety technology
   Pre-crash Safety
      - The simulator allows participants to experience functions that help minimize damage, such as braking assistance and the automatic retraction of Pre-crash Seatbelts, when high probability of a collision has been determined
   Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM)
      - A simulator allows participants to experience the difference between vehicles with and without VDIM on slippery roads
Vehicle-infrastructure cooperative systems
      - A video and panel presentation on verification activities carried out on TMC’s test course and public roads
Environment
   - Introduction of probe traffic information systems, traffic flow simulations, etc.
Comfort
   - TMC will display two vehicles produced in China that are equipped with a navigation system: the Prius manufactured by Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd.  (SFTM) and the Camry manufactured by Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (GTMC)
   - A video and hands-on demonstration, using actual communication devices, explaining some of the telematics services scheduled to be implemented in China, including real-time communication services such as operator services and news-provision services.  In addition, participants will be able to experience the FM-wave traffic information service, which collects probe information at the Beijing Transportation Information Center on approximately 11,000 taxis operating in Beijing and then diffuses that information.
Social contribution activities in China
   - A video and panel presentation will introduce TMC's various traffic safety initiatives in China as well as its afforestation project and collaboration with Tsinghua University
Outdoor
demonstration
Demonstration at China's Proving Ground for Highway and Traffic of the Ministry of Communications:
   -   TMC will participate in Technical Tour 3, carried out jointly by Japan and China, which involves a test-ride demonstrating the safety driving assistance system; a Prius and Previa (known as the Estima in Japan) will be provided as the vehicles for the test ride
