Toyota Choreography Award 2014 Enters Finalist Stage

 

Toyota City, Japan, June 2, 2014―Toyota Motor Corporation announces that the winner of the Toyota Choreography Award will be selected at a finalists’ event to be held at the Setagaya Public Theatre in Tokyo on August 3.

Held as part of Toyota's social contribution activities, the award was launched in 2001 and aims to discover and nurture promising choreographers. This year, the ninth year the award will be given, the selection committee has chosen six finalists from 242 applicants (203 groups).

At the finalists' event, a jury and guest judges will select one winner for the Next-generation Choreographer Award, while the audience will vote to decide one winner for the Audience Award. Tickets for the event will go on sale on June 6.

This year's finalists are: Mikiko Kawamura, Reina Kimura, Takuro Suzuki, Yuya Tsukahara, Pijin Neji and Kaoru Norimatsu.

The winner of the Next-generation Choreographer Award will receive the opportunity to choreograph a production to be staged in 2015*. Toyota will present the winner with a two million yen prize to cover a portion of production costs, while the Setagaya Public Theatre will provide its "Theatre Tram" space as a performance venue. Furthermore, the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa Prefecture will provide rehearsal space and accommodation while the winner choreographs the new performance.
