Cumulative Thai Toyota Production Hits 5 Million Mark
Chachoengsao, Thailand, December 3, 2010―Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd. (TMT) marked cumulative production of 5 million vehicles in Thailand with a ceremony at TMT's Ban Pho Plant.
At the ceremony, whose attendees included Thai Minister of Industry Chaiwuti Bannawat, TMC President Akio Toyoda said that Toyota's business in Thailand has grown together with the country thanks to the support of the Thai people, and that reaching cumulative production of 5 million vehicles was the result of Toyota members in Thailand working together to provide Thai consumers with vehicles that meet their needs. TMT President Kyoichi Tanada said that he was extremely happy that TMT has developed along with the Thai economy and has contributed to society.
TMC established TMT in 1962 as its second overseas production site, following Brazil. TMT has conducted production with strong local ties here since assembly of the "Tiara" sedan and the "Stout" truck started at the Samrong Plant in 1964.
Also due to mark a 5-million-unit production milestone this month is Siam Toyota Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (STM), TMC's engine-production subsidiary here.
Under its founding philosophy of contributing to society through the manufacture of automobiles, TMC―around the world―strives to supply high-quality products that are suited to regional conditions and that are reasonably priced, and to contribute to the development of automobile industries by creating jobs and developing human resources.
