TMC's Production and Sales JV in Pakistan Turns 20
Tokyo―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announces that Indus Motor Company Limited (IMC), TMC's joint-venture production and sales company with House of Habib (HOH), held a ceremony today at its plant in Karachi, Pakistan to mark the company's recent 20th anniversary. Also, IMC held a line-off ceremony to commemorate cumulative production of 350,000 vehicles.
IMC was established in 1989 as a Toyota-vehicle production and sales base in Pakistan and began producing the "Corolla" in 1993, followed by the "Hilux" in 1996. In 2009, sales of the Corolla reached 36,000 vehicles (a 33.6% increase over the previous year), giving the vehicle the top unit-sales position in the Asian region (excluding China). In 2000, IMC began producing the Daihatsu "Cuore" in the first joint-production project outside Japan between TMC and Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd.
TMC Vice Chairman Katsuaki Watanabe congratulated IMC on its anniversary and production achievement, and went on to say that, through monozukuri, TMC wishes to continue contributing to Pakistan's industrial development, economic growth, human resource development and employment.
