Toyota Receives 2014 Japan Mécénat Award

Toyota City, Japan, October 9, 2014―Toyota Motor Corporation has received the 2014 Commissioner for Cultural Affairs Award a special Japan Mécénat Award, for the Toyota Youth Orchestra Camp. The award was presented at the Japan Mécénat Awards ceremony organized by Japan's Association for Corporate Support of the Arts.

The Toyota Youth Orchestra Camp is designed to foster future leaders in various regions around Japan through music, and has been conducted since 1985 in collaboration with the Federation of Japan Amateur Orchestras Corporation (JAO). The four-day camp provides participants with the opportunity to not only improve their music performance skills, but also learn the importance of teamwork through being part of a steering committee, which actively plans, prepares, and manages the camp's study program. Participants then take back what they have learned and share that knowledge and experience with their respective home orchestras throughout the country.

The award was presented for Toyota's collaboration with JAO in supporting amateur orchestras throughout Japan, thereby helping to encourage the development of arts and culture on a regional level and helping members of the general public become involved in creative cultural initiatives. The award also recognizes the contribution that the program makes through music to the fostering of the next generation of leaders of cultural activities.

Upon receiving the award, Toyota President Akio Toyoda said: "It is a great honor for Toyota to receive the prestigious Commissioner for Cultural Affairs Prize. I believe that it is an affirmation of the diligent efforts made by JAO and everyone else who has supported the Toyota Youth Orchestra Camp over the last 30 years. It is a very happy moment for everyone at Toyota."

Toyota will continue to promote a range of music-related initiatives to help stimulate local culture and foster the leaders of tomorrow.
